Senior Systems Administrator (Job #6461)

Job Description:

The Senior Systems Administrator will use systems analysis techniques and procedures to contribute to system design, capacity planning, implementation and sustainment activities across development, staging and production environments and work closely with Engineering, Program Managers and End-Users to ensure proper and timely deployment of customer?s solutions. Perform all levels of analysis for operating systems, business applications, monitoring agents, risk mitigation agents, backup/recovery agents, network devices and storage devices. Provide a full range of system administrative duties for servers running Windows 2008 network operating system software in a team environment. Duties include and are not limited to: Planning, estimating, installation, configuration, patching, optimizing operating system software and application software. Applications include COTS and GOTS. Troubleshoot operating system, hardware, application problems using a systematic approach. Establish written plans and rough order of magnitude estimates. Communicate verbally with other teammates and clients. Install and configure server hardware such as memory, hard disks and CPUs. Work with vendors to schedule and perform maintenance/service on computing hardware. Articulate requirements and participate in a shared storage environment. Respond in a timely manner to request for after-hours service and support.



The primary focus of this position will be to perform functions necessary to ensure the smooth operation of an enterprise data center which is comprised of multiple cloud and non-cloud environments. Support for the general user community in the form of email or ticket requests ranging from permissions issues, locked accounts, password issues, server service troubleshooting and more.



Specific tasks include:



Respond to requests for support from the general user community and Systems Engineering Team.


Plan, support and execute monthly patching on all Windows 2008 servers.


Support the creation of network accounts.


Support the regular maintenance of Active Directory and all related services such as DHCP, DNS, print and more.


Assisted other team members with projects/tasks as designated.


Participating in change control and incident management activities to ensure that defect corrections or other changes do not introduce, or re-introduce, vulnerabilities into any server.



Additional tasks include:



Manage all Active Directory objects reflecting services, users, servers, workstations or other custom objects


Recommend, and implement on approval, hardware, software, database or network solutions. Evaluate indicators from hardware or network devices and consistently recognize need for change towards this purpose and implement solutions to solve issues in an evolving architecture.


Work with other departments and customers to analyze performance issues and determine solutions. Communicate with internal/external parties to provide status updates, analyze issues, and determine possible solutions to technical and procedural obstacles.


Create, modify, assign, update and close Trouble Tickets and Work Orders via a Customer Services Solution such as Remedy and/or email.

Required Experience



Prefer 2-5 years of experience working daily with Microsoft Windows operating systems in a large data center environment.



Experience using Microsoft office applications in a production environment (Visio, Word, PowerPoint and Excel).



Experience working with hardware or virtual machines



Experience administrating a production Active Directory forest/domain.



Production experience working with DHCP and DNS (lab only experience not acceptable).



Experience installing and configuring Active Directory. Working knowledge of information systems methodologies and practices.
