RemoteBasic Function:The School for Professional and Continuing
Studies (SPCS) seeks to hire part-time, non-instructional adjunct
faculty member to develop one or more courses for fully online
programs within our Bachelor's Degree for Professional program for
working adults. The SPCS is seeking Subject Matter Experts (SME) to
utilize their unique educational and professional experience and
knowledge to develop a complete course designed to fit within the
online curriculum sequence and teaching style.Subject Matter
Experts are needed in the following areas for undergraduate
courses:
- Accounting and Financial Analysis
- Business Management
- Criminology and Justice Studies
- Organizational Leadership
- Psychological and Behavioral Science
- Strategic Communication
- And some general education subject areas (e.g. History, Earth &
Environmental Sciences)Representative Duties:
- Based on an approved syllabus, develop a course that meets the
SPCS objectives of the course within the context of the larger
program.
- Use the technologies and materials selected and provided by
California Lutheran University to support program delivery.
- Develop for delivery within the online technology suite used by
California Lutheran University, including the Canvas Learning
Management Software (LMS) and Cal Lutheran's designated/approved
templates.
- Work with representatives from the SPCS to ensure the
appropriateness of the material and the course for the program,
including syllabus requirements.
- Create the content for the course with an instructional
designer and provide any edits necessary after their Quality
Matters audit/review.
- Deliver a combination of synchronous and asynchronous content
sufficient for a 3-credit hour class.
- Ensure the work results in a complete course, including but not
limited to asynchronous materials (such as video lectures,
readings, homework, exams, and project assignments) and synchronous
materials (such as presentations, slides, notes, activities, and
lesson plans for live sessions). All materials will be available in
the Canvas Learning Management Software (LMS).
- Provide sufficient resources to engage the students for a time
adequate to fulfill accreditation standards for contact hours and
time on task and to satisfy the course learning objectives. The
instructional designer will work with the course developer to
determine which aspects of the course are best suited to be taught
synchronously and which instructional elements are better suited to
asynchronous instruction.
- Provide supplemental resources (textbook, whitepapers,
homework, etc.) for self-study just as in an on-ground course with
the expectation that students will need to spend approximately 2
hours outside of class for every hour spent consuming the
instructional content.
- Maintain current, accurate records.
- Performs related duties as assigned.Knowledge Of:
- The subject matter being taught (i.e., a subject matter expert
in the field).
- Pedagogical methods and learning theories (i.e., how people
learn and which teaching strategies are most effective for
different types of content and learners).
- Educational technology tools and Learning Management Systems
(LMS). Course developers should be able to create and manage online
content, quizzes, discussion forums, and other interactive
elements.
- Current theory and practice within the subject discipline.
- Principles and best practices of effective online
teaching.
- Accessibility standards and the ability to design courses that
are inclusive and accessible to all students, including those with
disabilities.
- Multimedia elements, such as videos, animations, and
interactive simulations, to enhance the learning experience.
Knowledge of video editing, graphic design, and multimedia software
is a plus.
- Assessment techniques and the ability to create effective
quizzes, exams, and other evaluation methods. The ability to
analyze data and use it to improve the course is important.Ability
To:
- Plan, organize, and deliver online courses on time and within
budget.
- Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge in the subject
field or discipline.
- Deliver course curricula in various learning styles.
- Integrate current and emerging instructional delivery
technologies into the course development process.
- Demonstrate professional standards.
- Work with subject matter experts, instructional designers,
multimedia specialists, and other team members is essential.
Collaboration skills facilitate the development of a well-rounded
course.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing using tact,
patience, and courtesy.Minimum Qualifications:Possession of a
master's degree from a graduate institution of recognized standing
or equivalent experience and professional recognition. Cannot hire
from North Dakota, Ohio, Washington, Wyoming, or individuals not
authorized to work in the United States.Preferred
Qualifications:Experience with online course development.Licenses
