Job SummaryLancaster General Health is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist to join our team. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms, providing exceptional patient care, and supporting our surgical team.Key Responsibilities

• Assist in the delivery of patient care by handling instruments during operative procedures and by performing a variety of duties related to the preparation, processing, and arrangement of surgical instruments and supplies under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
• Utilize techniques of infection control and monitor all personnel for compliance with aseptic techniques and safety standards.
• Function primarily as an instrument handler on all types of surgical procedures, requiring conformance with specific sterile and aseptic techniques and procedures.
• Secure, set up, and prepare Operating Room equipment, instruments, and supplies, arranging them in a specified order and adjusting equipment to meet the needs of the surgeon and operative requirements.
• Function as a first assistant to the surgeon by handling tissue, using instruments to provide wound exposure and hemostasis, suction, sponge, and bovie when needed, cutting tissue, and tying suture as directed by the surgeon.
• Anticipate and supply the surgeon's needs for instruments, supplies, and equipment, ensuring the surgeon's attention is not diverted from the operative field.
• Identify emergency situations and respond in a calm and efficient manner, recognizing surgical complications and anticipating corrective measures to ensure expeditious treatment.
• Care for contaminated instruments and supplies during and after surgical procedures, utilizing appropriate environmental control techniques.
• Participate in the on-call system in the O.R. for emergency and urgency cases.Secondary Responsibilities
  • Participate in the education and orientation of surgical personnel.
  • Assist the circulating nurse in providing direct patient care.
  • Participate in surgical procedures outside the department.
  • Periodically work in the instrument or utility room area, sorting instruments and equipment, arranging set-ups, storing equipment for future use, and picking instruments for scheduled cases.
  • Maintain established stock levels in the Operating Room suites.
  • Participate in on-call responsibilities for this position as required.Requirements
    • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
    • Graduate of an approved school of surgical technology or completion of a surgical military training program (Army, Navy, or Air Force).
    • Certification as a Surgical Technologist within 6 months of hire.
    • CPR Certification.
    • One (1) year of Operating Room scrub experience preferred.
